Selkirk Road Woods, near Wood Islands,
Prince Edward Island, Canada

Description of the woods:

Parcel 327130 is a 50 acre property on a south facing slope on the Selkirk Road in southeastern Queens County, PEI.

This woodland is completely covered by beautiful hardwood trees and scattered softwoods such as huge and uncommon Eastern Hemlock.  A small stream runs across the land about two thirds of its length back from Selkirk Road.  An overgrown woods road is now only accessible on foot, but provides visitors with a wilderness-like experience as they walk through the mixed aged trees and ground covering plants like Bluebead lily, wild lily-of-the- valley, twin flower, violets and more.  Sugar and Red Maple, American Beech, Yellow and White Birch dominate the forest.  Many ages of trees and the undulating ground or "cradle hollows" indicate this land has not been farmed or clear cut.  Some trees have been cut by previous owners for firewood and perhaps some lumber, but this land has remained intact as a forest for centuries.  Animal wildlife includes many insects, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals.  Red squirrel and snowshoe hare use the site extensively.

This woodland is under the protection of the Island Nature Trust
